What is APAAR ID Card ?

APAAR ID Card, which stands for Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry, is a unique identification system designed for all students in India. The initiative is part of the ‘One Nation, One Student ID’ programme launched by the government in alignment with the new National Education Policy 2020.

APAAR ID – A unique 12-digit code will help students digitally store, manage and access all their academic credits, including score cards, mark sheets, grade sheets, degrees, diplomas, certificates and co-curricular achievements. This ID acts as a permanent digital identity for the student in the educational ecosystem.

The APAAR ID is linked to the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) and DigiLocker, an online repository where students securely access their essential documents such as exam results and academic credentials and documents. It receives students’ academic credits directly from institutions and awards them to institutions through the National Academic Depository. Thus, being a single source of truth, this streamlines authentication for transfers, entrance exams, admissions or job applications, facilitating verification of academic records.

Verification: Visit the school to verify demographic details
Parental Consent: Obtain parental consent if the student is a minor
Authentication: Authenticate identity through the school
ID Creation: Upon successful verification, an APAAR ID is created and added to DigiLocker for secure online access.

Before generating APAAR ID, the following prerequisites must be considered:
The student’s name as per the student’s record in UDISE+ must match the student’s name as per Aadhaar
The student’s PEN is mandatory for generating APAAR ID

The UDISE+ (Unified District Information System for Education Plus) portal is a comprehensive database used to manage information related to students, teachers, and schools across India.

The following student details are mandatory to create APAAR ID:
UDISE+ Unique Student Identifier (PEN), Student Name, Date of Birth (DOB), Gender, Mobile Number, Mother’s Name, Father’s Name, Name as per Aadhaar, Aadhaar Number

If APAAR ID generation fails, an error message will be displayed indicating issues like demographic data mismatch between AADHAAR and educational records. The user will have to correct the inaccurate data and resubmit their request to generate APAAR ID.

As soon as the APAAR ID is generated, it is pushed to the student’s DigiLocker account. The student can find the virtual APAAR ID card in the Issued Documents section of DigiLocker. The status of APAAR ID generation can also be checked in the UDISE+ portal under the APAAR module, which displays a list of students with their APAAR ID status. Students can request their school authority to check the status of their APAAR ID generation.

Students, their parents, school administration, and class teachers are all responsible for ensuring that student data is accurate and up-to-date during registration and admission.

Student data should be updated regularly, especially in cases where there are changes in the student’s details (e.g. name, DOB, gender, and phone number). This ensures that the APAAR ID generation process reflects the most accurate and current information.

Institutions use APAAR IDs to access and verify students’ academic history for admission, credit transfer, and recruitment purposes. They also help manage and update academic records.

Schools are responsible for providing APAAR IDs to students, verifying their details and updating the students’ demographic and academic records in the UDISE+ system. They also handle the initial creation and authentication of APAAR.
