RTE 2nd Round Soon: Over 13,000 RTE Seats Still Vacant in Gujarat After First Round of Admissions
The first round of RTE admissions in Gujarat for 2025 has ended, but over 13,000 seats are still vacant in private schools. Parents and officials now look forward to the RTE 2nd Round to fill these remaining seats.
Big Response to RTE This Year
This year, the Right to Education (RTE) admission process received a strong response from parents. A total of 2,38,916 online applications were submitted for free admission to Class 1 under the 25% RTE quota in private schools.
This is a major increase compared to last year.
Why Did Applications Rise So Much?
Officials say the main reason is the increase in the income limit.
Earlier, the income limit was ₹1.5 lakh (urban) and ₹1.2 lakh (rural).
Now, it has been raised to ₹6 lakh per year for all families—whether rural or urban.
Because of this change, nearly 45,000 extra applications were received this year.
Status of Applications
Out of the total applications:
- ✅ 1,75,685 were approved after document verification
- ❌ 13,761 were rejected
- ⚠️ 49,470 were cancelled (due to duplicate entries or missing documents)
First Round Seat Allotment: What Happened?
In Gujarat, the state had notified 93,860 RTE seats across 9,741 private schools for 2025.
- 📅 On April 28, the first round of seat allotment was done.
- 🎯 86,274 seats were allotted based on parents’ school choices, reservation category, and merit.
- ✅ 80,378 parents confirmed their child’s admission by the May 8 deadline.
- ❌ 7,586 seats were not allotted because no parents had selected those schools.
13,384 Seats Still Vacant in RTE 2nd Round
After the first round, 13,384 RTE seats are still vacant across Gujarat. These seats are available for eligible children in the upcoming second round.
Second Round Coming Soon
Officials have confirmed that the second round of RTE admissions will begin soon. Parents who missed the first round or whose applications were rejected or cancelled can still get a chance.
The government is hopeful that all vacant seats will be filled in this next phase.
What is RTE?
Under Section 12(1)(c) of the Right to Education Act, 25% of seats in private unaided schools are reserved for:
- Children from economically weaker sections (EWS)
- Children from disadvantaged groups
The Gujarat government conducts this admission process online and centrally every year, to make it fair and transparent for all.
Final Words
The RTE process gives a golden opportunity to lakhs of families across Gujarat to get quality education for their children—completely free. If you missed the first round, don’t worry. Keep an eye out for the second round. More seats are still waiting!
